This is the same palo santo, just not sorted for size. Some pieces are slimmer, some thicker, some shorter than the rest, shaped by wind, time, and however the wood happened to fall and dry. In most supply chains, pieces like these get set aside, not because the wood is any lower quality, but because they don't look uniform sitting on a shelf. We kept them in instead of letting good wood go to waste.

About this product

A 1 kg bulk pack of palo santo (Bursera graveolens), sold loose by weight in mixed, natural sizes rather than graded to match. It's the same fragrant, naturally aromatic wood as any other palo santo, ethically sourced from naturally fallen, aged deadwood rather than live-cut trees, just without the sorting that usually filters out anything that isn't a consistent shape. Bursera graveolens is not an endangered species, unlike a different, darker wood sometimes confused with it in the trade.

Why it's used

Palo santo has long been burned by Indigenous communities in coastal Ecuador and Peru for spiritual cleansing, valued for a sweeter, softer smoke than sage. The shape or size of the stick has no effect on that it burns and smells the same either way.
