Back then, tarot cards were merely used as card game. Variations of the card game were played in Italy, France and other parts of Europe. A set of traditional tarot cards often consists out of 78 cards, which can be divided in two categories. The first one, the Major Arcana, that consists out of 22 cards, represents the larger themes in life – such as life, happiness and death. The other one, the Minor Arcana, that consist out of 56 cards, represents everyday events.
